Short, intense bursts of physical activity throughout the day can reduce the risk of serious illness. A study of almost 100,000 people showed that the intensity of movement is important. Even a few minutes of shortness of breath, for example when rushing to catch a bus or climbing stairs, brings benefits. This activity is associated with a reduced risk of heart disease, dementia and diabetes. In particular, it has been shown to have a positive effect on inflammatory conditions and brain health.
