After a stroke, changes occur in the brain that manifest themselves differently on the affected and unaffected side. Analysis of brain scans in people after a stroke has shown that the damaged side of the brain shows signs of accelerated aging. Conversely, the unaffected side of the brain may show signs of rejuvenation. This phenomenon suggests that the brain is trying to connect and strengthen healthy areas to compensate for the loss of function caused by the stroke. The research focused on analyzing the brain scans of more than 500 stroke survivors.
