The hepatic arterial buffer response (HABR) is a physiological mechanism in the liver that regulates blood flow. As blood flow through the portal vein decreases, flow through the hepatic artery increases to compensate. This process helps maintain a steady overall blood flow through the liver. HABR is impaired in various liver diseases such as cirrhosis. Impairment of HABR can lead to reduced liver perfusion and impaired liver function. Diagnosis and monitoring of HABR can be helpful in assessing liver health. The mechanism of HABR is complex and involves the interaction between vasoactive substances and liver cells. Further research is needed to fully understand and use HABR in clinical practice.
