The CHAMPION-AF study suggests that left atrial (LAA) closure using the Watchman device may be a suitable alternative to long-term anticoagulation in patients with atrial fibrillation (Afib). This percutaneous procedure closes the LAA, reducing the risk of blood clots and subsequent stroke. The study compared the efficacy and safety of the Watchman LAA Occluder with anticoagulant therapy. The results suggest that LAA occlusion may be effective in preventing stroke in selected patients with Afib. This method represents an alternative for patients who cannot or do not want to take anticoagulants for a long time. The CHAMPION-AF study supports the Watchman LAA Occluder as a treatment option for patients with Afib.
