Claude Seng was born in Mauritius in 1957. He grew up in the family business where he developed a strong work ethic. Thanks to his academic talent, he won a laureate - a national scholarship for the country's best students. The scholarship allowed him to study medicine anywhere in the world and he chose Leeds, where he graduated in 1982. He began a specialty in anesthesiology in Leeds, Swansea and London, where he was praised by midwives for his skill in administering quick and effective epidurals. With a growing family, he decided on public health as a specialty. He completed a master's degree in infectious disease control at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and qualified as a consultant in communicable diseases.
