The article presents a systematic review, meta-analysis and extrapolation of data from the global joint registry on the survival of modern total hip replacement up to 30 years. An estimated 92% 30-year survival indicates a high long-term durability of these prostheses. Advances in bearing surface technology have significantly improved the long-term durability of total hip replacements. These findings may influence patient counseling. They can also help with health care planning. In addition, they could have an impact on the regulation of healthcare facilities.
