The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) sued Robert F. Kennedy Jr. in July for illegal changes to covid vaccine recommendations, which the government no longer recommends to anyone, although they remain available. The AAP has issued its own recommendations for childhood vaccination against covid, RSV, and influenza, recommending covid vaccines for children 6 to 23 months of age and for children over 2 years of age at high risk of severe disease. Kennedy called the AAP "severely conflicted" over alleged ties to vaccine manufacturers through the Friends of Children Fund. The AAP became the main opponent of Kennedy's MAHA vaccination agenda. Kennedy also criticized the American Medical Association (AMA) for supporting sanctions against doctors spreading misinformation during the pandemic. On his side are Republican senators such as Rand Paul and Roger Marshall. Kennedy fired all 17 members of ACIP's vaccine advisory committee because of their ties to the pharmaceutical industry and replaced them with vaccine skeptics. The changes caused chaos at the CDC, including the firing of Director Susan Monarez and thousands of employees.
