The OPTION trial showed that intravenous tenecteplase (TNKase) may be beneficial up to 24 hours after stroke onset in patients who did not receive mechanical thrombectomy. These are patients with acute obstruction of large vessels without LVO (large vessel occlusion). Thus, the thrombolysis window can be extended to 24 hours for strokes without LVO. The study was conducted in New Orleans and its results were presented on MedPage Today. Tenecteplase has been given intravenously to patients with these types of strokes. The main finding confirms safety and efficacy in this extended time window.
