Dozens of key vaccination-related surveillance databases run by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have been suspended without explanation. Experts warn it leaves the US "blindsided" in the face of public health threats and will have "dire" consequences. Researchers from Boston University, the University of North Carolina, and Vanderbilt University audited the CDC's public data catalog. Previously, the catalog updated an average of 44.82 records per month. Of the 82 databases, 44 (54%) were current, while 38 (46%) were suspended. Most of the suspended databases (33) related to vaccines, others provided data on respiratory diseases and drug overdose deaths. Almost all (34) suspended databases have not been updated in the last six months.
