In West Bengal, India, only two cases of Nipah have been confirmed since December 2025[1][2][3]. These cases occurred in health workers in the North 24 Parganas area[2][6][7]. The National Center for Disease Control (NCDC) has identified, traced, monitored, and tested a total of 196 contacts associated with these cases[1][2][3]. All of these contacts remained asymptomatic and tested negative for Nipah virus[1][2][3]. The Government of India, in collaboration with West Bengal, implemented prompt and comprehensive public health measures according to established protocols[1][3]. Increased surveillance, laboratory testing, and field investigations ensured a timely closure of the situation and no further cases were detected[1][2]. The situation is under constant surveillance and all necessary public health measures are in place[1]. The risk of infection for people from Europe traveling to or living in the area is assessed as very low[title].
