Parents of children with autism are increasingly seeking unproven and potentially dangerous treatments because there is no effective treatment for the disorder.[5] Approximately 55,000 children are born in Slovakia annually, of which 1 percent, i.e. 550, are at risk of autism due to genetic factors and gene mutations.[5] Oxytocin treatment shows strong potential in preclinical studies, but clinical studies confirm little or no effect.[1] Behavioral interventions such as applied behavior analysis (ABA) and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) are the most effective, but they require a lot of time, energy and money.[1][3] Early diagnosis and continuous therapy improve the quality of life without changing the person himself, but by adapting the environment.[5][6] The WHO reviewed 31 studies from 2010-2025 and confirmed that vaccines do not cause autism, while 20 studies found no evidence of a link.[2] Other proven approaches include ESDM for children 12 to 48 months and music therapy to support communication.[3]
