NHS England has approved a list of 19 suppliers of AI tools for automatic note-taking, known as ambient voice technology (AVT).[2][5] These tools listen to doctor-patient consultations, transcribe them in real-time, and create clinical summaries to free up doctors' time for patients.[1][5] According to a study across 9 London NHS sites with over 17,000 appointments, there was a 51.7% reduction in documentation time and doctors spent almost 25% more time with patients.[2][3] Suppliers must meet clinical safety, technology and data protection standards.[1][5] A study led by Great Ormond Street Hospital showed the potential to reduce the burden on doctors and improve patient care.[3][5] These tools are part of the government's 10-year plan to cut red tape in the NHS.[1][3]
