Vijay Pande, former founding partner of bio and healthcare strategy at Andreessen Horowitz (a16z), is leaving the firm after 11 years in life sciences investments.[2][3] He plans to start a new venture capital firm focusing on artificial intelligence (AI) and consumer health.[1][3] As the founder of a16z Bio + Health since 2014, he has led investments at the intersection of biology and computer science, including AI in healthcare, digital therapies and diagnostics.[1][2] The a16z Bio + Health fund has raised four funds of about $3 billion each, including a $1.5 billion fund in 2022, but plans a fifth fund of just $750 million.[2] Pande's investments include Devoted Health, Function Health and Freenome.[2] Before joining a16z, he was a professor of chemistry, structural biology, and computer science at Stanford University.[2] The remaining a16z Bio + Health partners are Jorge Conde, Julie Yoo and Vineeta Agarwala.[2]
