The study focused on patients with active venous leg ulcers who were treated with platelet-rich fibrin gel (PRF). The authors conducted a descriptive phenomenological study with 13 patients between June and December 2024, using semi-structured interviews. They analyzed the data using Colaizzi's seven-step method and created a dynamic model of the "patient journey" that combines the cognitive, emotional and experiential aspects of treatment. They identified four main themes: tension and hope before treatment, challenges during treatment, changes in the biological, psychological and social domains after treatment, and fluctuations between anxiety and hope. Patients reported that PRF gel therapy as part of comprehensive wound care was associated with improved ulcer healing and better psychological well-being. The created patient journey map provides a structured framework to better understand the patient experience during PRF treatment. The authors report that this framework can help tailor patient education and support and improve clinical workflows in the management of intractable venous ulcers.
