US President Donald Trump has ordered a review of US childhood vaccination recommendations and compare them to the policies of other developed countries.[1][2][3] According to the January 2025 guideline, the US recommended vaccinating all children against 18 diseases, significantly outstripping other countries.[1][2][3] He tasked Secretary of Health Robert F. Kennedy and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) with identifying better approaches and eventually implementing them.[1][3] On Friday, a CDC advisory committee eased the recommendation to vaccinate newborns against hepatitis B immediately after birth.[1][2][3][4] The new recommendation allows mothers with a negative hepatitis B test to decide on the vaccine after consulting a doctor; otherwise, the first dose is postponed for at least two months of the child's age.[1][4] The committee's 8-to-3 decision recommends the vaccine immediately after birth only for children of test-positive or untested mothers.[4] The change has yet to be formally confirmed by the CDC director.[1][4] Some states such as California criticized the move for lack of evidence.[2]
