Researchers studying Alzheimer's disease in African Americans have identified a gene called ADAMTS2 that is significantly more active in patients with the disease compared to healthy individuals[1]. The study analyzed brain tissue from more than 200 donors, and the ADAMTS2 gene showed 1.52 times higher activity in Alzheimer's cases[1]. A remarkable finding is that the same gene also appeared first in an independent study conducted on Caucasian individuals, suggesting a common biological pathway behind the disease[1]. The research revealed both shared and unique genetic patterns between different populations[1]. These findings may lead to new treatment strategies for Alzheimer's disease. The findings highlight the importance of investigating genetic factors of the disease in different ethnic groups.
