According to the Lancet Commission's new definition of obesity, which includes three anthropometric indicators along with body mass index, more than 75% of adults in the U.S. are obese.1 The rate of gestational diabetes in the U.S. is rising significantly.1 A large study analyzing data from 2011 to 2019 showed an increase in incidence from 47.6 to 63.5 cases per 1,000 live births, an average annual increase of 3.7%.[1] This growth was seen across all age, racial, and ethnic groups.The highest rates in 2019 were among Asian-Indian individuals with 129.1 cases per 1,000 live births and Puerto Rican women with 75.8 cases per 1,000 live births.Officials hope that improving access to GLP-1 drugs will help the situation.Oprah Winfrey praises GLP-1 drugs.[1
