Researchers studied young adults with obesity and found early signs of brain stress that are similar to those of cognitive impairment. This group showed increased inflammation, signs of liver burden, and elevated levels of neurofilament light chain, a biomarker of neuronal damage. These changes were closely associated with low levels of choline, an important nutrient for the brain. The results suggest that metabolic disturbances may be silently damaging the brain even before clinical symptoms appear. The study highlights the importance of early diagnosis and choline supplementation in young people with obesity. These findings may help to better understand how obesity affects the brain and contributes to its premature aging and damage.
