The study examined the effect of fish oil on patients receiving hemodialysis. Patients received either fish oil or a placebo. The results showed that fish oil did not reduce the risk of death, heart attacks or strokes in hemodialysis patients. The study included more than 1,200 patients followed for more than 2 years. There was no statistically significant improvement in the fish oil group compared to placebo. Fish oil did not affect triglyceride levels or other cardiovascular parameters. The results do not recommend routine administration of fish oil to hemodialysis patients.
