The TARGET guideline is a methodological tool aimed at improving the quality of reporting on observational studies of interventions. Observational studies that attempt to mimic the design of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) may be affected by various design biases. Emulating a target trial when conducting an observational study can reduce the likelihood of these biases. The main aim of the TARGET directive is to increase transparency in the reporting of such studies so that the results are clearer and better understood. The guidance helps readers better assess the quality and reliability of research findings. At the same time, it enables clinicians and researchers to better apply the results in practice. The TARGET guideline thus contributes to increasing the scientific rigor and practical applicability of observational studies of interventions.
